INTRODUCTION

Welcome to the Cairns 2017 UCI MOUNTAIN BIKE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS. Twenty-one years after the first World Championships was staged at this venue the World Championships are returning to this hallowed ground of Australian Mountain Biking.

Australia is ready and looking forward to making this the most memorable event of the past two decades!

This newsletter contains important information to assist in your planning and also key contact information related to matters that will affect you, please take the time to read it in full.

COMPETITION
SCHEDULE

The 2017 Official Competition Schedule is now available.

SITE ACCESS 

The site is Smithfield Regional Park in Smithfield, Cairns. Access is from McGregor Rd, via the James Cook University campus. Signage will provide directions to accreditation and the venue for the McGregor Rd turn off.

Federations and team staff will have access to their allocated space for set up between Saturday 2 September and Tuesday 5 September. All set up must be complete in time for Public opening at 2pm Wednesday 6 September.

Please note that it will not be possible to pre-ride the courses before the scheduled practice times outlined in the competition schedule due to works crews preparing the coursed for the event

ACCOMMODATION AND TRAVEL BOOKINGS 

For any travel and accommodation booking requirements that may be required, we have engaged a specialist sport and event Travel agent. They will be more than happy to assist you with any requirements regardless of size or complexity:

CUSTOMS / IMMIGRATION INFORMATION

As you are probably aware under Australia's universal visa system, all visitors to Australia must have a valid visa to travel to and enter Australia.

There are many visa options available to people wishing to visit Australia. The appropriate visa option will depend, amongst other things, on the person's purpose for visiting Australia and their particular circumstances (Amateur or Professional, or support staff for example).

 If you require a letter of invitation by Cycling Australia to compete or participate please email info@mtbworldscairns.com.au – you will need to supply: Full Name, Gender, Nationality, Date of Birth, Position in team. For the letter to be drafted.

We encourage you to apply for your visa well in advance of your travel dates as it can take up to 40 days to process.

BOOKING FORM FOR TEAM, FEDERATION AND EXPO SPACES

We are happy to announce that National Federations, Team and IMTTO site registrations are now open for the 2017 UCI Mountain Bike World Championships.

Teams and Federations will have a dedicated area within the event village in the Smithfield Regional Park with 20,000 spectators expected during the week.
