 2017 UCI Mountain Bike World Championships


Tickets on sale TODAY 4 April 2017       


 Tickets for the 2017 UCI Mountain Bike World Championships in Cairns have gone on sale today, Tuesday 4 April 2017.


With over 20,000 spectators expected to attend the event, a special ‘locals’ pricing structure has been introduced to invite fans from 208 postcodes within the Cairns region to experience mountain biking’s pinnacle event and world class action.


Prices for adult tickets start from $15 and $40 for families with children under 10 FREE to experience explosive action from the world’s best Mountain Bike athletes.


Cycling Australia CEO Nick Green OAM, said today “It’s all systems go for the 2017 UCI Mountain Bike World Championships now that tickets are on sale. Fans can take advantage of discounted three day packages and special ‘Locals’ pricing for those in the Cairns region. The event is also family friendly, with free admission for kids under 10 and family 3-day and single day packages.”


The 2017 event will feature over 300 riders from more than 35 countries competing in the Cross Country (XCO) and Downhill (DHI) disciplines.


The event will be held at Smithfield Regional Park, James Cook University from the 5 – 10 September 2017 and features six days of action.


The most notable change to the schedule is the shift of the two disciplines from last year’s World Cup format. This year the Cross Country (XCO) competition will be contested on Saturday 9 September while the Downhill (DHI) event will take place on Sunday 10 September.

“We’re preparing to welcome mountain bike enthusiasts from around the world to Cairns and to our campus,” James Cook University Vice Chancellor Professor Sandra Harding said. “This is an important event for Cairns and it’s our pleasure to help make it a great success. While we’ll be barracking for JCU business student Tracey Hannah, we’re looking forward to seeing tough competition on the slopes.”


The event will have significant TV and digital viewing presence including the distribution of television broadcast to a cumulative audience in excess of 6.13 million globally across 18 different nations.


Domestically SBS and Fox Sports will carry the broadcast.

The official competition schedule for the 2017 UCI Mountain Bike World Championships in Cairns has been released and tickets will be on sale from Tuesday 4 April 2017.
